Is there a labor shortage in the UK?
Is there enough workforce inside the UK to cover the jobs market?
What are the options for the employers?
These are the questions we are about to answer, as shortly as possible, in the next lines.
Let’s start with the beginning.
Is there a labor shortage in the UK?
The answer is YES, it is. And it is not us who are saying it… According to the Office for National Statistics, the number of job vacancies between August to October 2022 was about 1,225,000. In theory, this number is decreasing slowly… but does not cover market needs.

According to the same institution, the unemployment level in the UK for the period July to September 2022 was equal to 1,198,000 people aged 16 to 64.
Do the numbers reflect reality? It is no more than a guide!
Now, let’s see what are the real options for employers, to recruit for skills gaps.
A long time ago (already…), before Brexit, the supplementary workforce was coming mostly from East Europe. Countries like Bulgaria, Romania, and Poland were at top of the list. Now, this solution is gone.
This means, for every position available (that can’t be filled with UK citizens) the employers would actually have to bring candidates from abroad…. actually it doesn’t matter if the candidate is from Europe, East Europe, Asia or Africa… the amount of paperwork is about the same and the expenses also.
As this is a logical conclusion, sourcing internationally is not a choice but a necessity.
There is a solution available to make things happen easily, fast, and clearly for everyone.
No, is not us, as DG Recruitment… we are not there, yet… but our partner Skills Provision is! And this is not an advertisement… is pure reality. They really do have all the solutions in hand for this.
