Senior Editor Position Summary:
As the Senior Editor, you will be the operational engine of our English-language newsroom. You will transform raw analytical reporting into polished, authoritative content, ensuring every article meets our exacting standards for accuracy, depth, and clarity. You are not just an editor; you are a force multiplier for our global network of correspondents and analysts.
The Senior Editor is a crucial guardian of our publication’s quality and voice. You will be the first and most important line of defence, working directly with analysts and reporters to sharpen their copy, challenge their assumptions, and ensure their reporting is presented with maximum impact and credibility.
The employing company is a premier global media platform specialising in in-depth intelligence analysis, geopolitical forecasting, and policy-oriented reporting located in Bucharest, Romania. We serve a discerning audience of decision-makers, analysts, and academics with rigorous, long-form content that shapes the conversation on international security and power dynamics.
Note:
Preferred candidates are C1 English speakers, UK graduates, or professionals with experience in English-language media, particularly those who have worked with mainstream outlets of Romanian nationality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the entire editorial lifecycle for the English desk, from story assignment and development to final proofreading and publication.
- Provide constructive, detailed feedback to contributors to elevate the quality of their work and deepen their understanding of our editorial standards.
- Directly manage and mentor a team of section editors, assigning breaking news and feature reports while balancing our editorial calendar.
- Perform top-level edits on complex analytical pieces, ensuring logical flow, argumentative rigour, and adherence to our house style guide.
- Collaborate with the Head of Security and Verification to implement robust fact-checking protocols for all sensitive reporting.
- Lead the editorial response to major breaking news events, coordinating rapid analysis from our field experts.
- Work with the Director of Audience Development to ensure content is optimised for discoverability without compromising analytical integrity.
- Identify and recruit top-tier writers, experts, and investigative journalists specialising in foreign policy, national security, and geopolitical dynamics, while maintaining long-term relationships with them.
Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of advanced editorial experience in international media, intelligence-focused publications, or policy-oriented platforms specializing in national security and geopolitical analysis
- Proven track record of editing sensitive national security, military affairs, or diplomatic content under tight deadlines.
- Native-level English proficiency with an exceptional grasp of narrative structure and the ability to simplify complex concepts for an expert audience.
- Demonstrated experience managing a team of writers and editors in a fast-paced news environment.
- Deep familiarity with global conflict zones, geopolitical theory, and the intelligence community.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in International Relations, Journalism, Political Science, or a related field.
